The Trees Came First
Between 2002 and 2005 — years before a single cabin was built — the founders of what would become Mist Mountain Resort began planting native tree seedlings across a 6.7-hectare parcel of highland land in Brgy. Taptap, Tabunan, on the western slopes of Cebu City. More than 4,000 seedlings went into the ground before any groundbreaking for guest accommodations took place.
By 2018, the CENRO (Community Environment and Natural Resources Office) officially documented 6,031 standing trees on the property. This number was not incidental — it was the foundation. The resort sits within the Kotkot-Lusaran Watershed Forest Reserve and is part of the Central Cebu Protected Landscape, one of the island's most ecologically significant upland zones.
Mist Mountain Resort opened softly to guests in May 2022. It was not the beginning of the project — it was the culmination of two decades of ecological investment. What guests experience today is a living mountain forest that was deliberately grown and stewarded before a single room rate was ever set.
